The Seattle Seahawks had a chance to prove their NFC credentials against the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field but laid an egg in the first half and were playing catchup for the rest of the contest.

The 31-13 loss dropped Seattle to 6-5 on the season, with a poor first half the catalyst for its fifth loss of the campaign. With a little over two minutes left in the first half, the Seahawks offense had just 15 total yards, hadn't converted a single third down and had the ball for just 6:50 compared to 21:10 of the 49ers.

Some called it a measuring stick game for the Seahawks, but quarterback Geno Smith isn't one for saying his team's credentials have now suffered.

“It's one game," Smith said. "One game. We lost one game. They beat us. Hats off to them. They're a really good team. They showed it tonight. But I don't feel like we need to let one game affect the next one. We got more games to play. We got to keep moving forward. As I said, we got to work harder. I'm definitely going to do that starting tomorrow."

The Seahawks will now get a chance to study the tape and look at what went so wrong in that first half.

The offense looked like a shell of itself as whether it be through the air or on the ground, there was almost nothing to be gained.

Given the game was at home, on national television, and they produced such a poor first half, one could be forgiven for thinking that the Seahawks could be down on their luck.

But head coach Pete Carroll remains optimistic going forward.

"We got plenty of chances coming up," Carroll said. "This is playoff time every week. We got plenty of chances with the teams we'll play in the next month that will show us where we are and where we fit with all that."

Things don't get any easier for the Seahawks, as they now travel to AT&T Stadium to face the rampaging Dallas Cowboys who are on a home winning streak of 13 games after their 45-10 blowout win over the Washington Commanders.
