Seahawks Place Jamal Adams, 5 Veterans on PUP List

In this story:
Shortly before the start of their first training camp practice of the new season, the Seattle Seahawks placed six players on the physically unable to perform list, including veteran safety Jamal Adams and linebacker Jordyn Brooks.
Along with Adams and Brooks, tight end Noah Fant, defensive tackles Bryan Mone and Austin Faoliu, and cornerback Tariq Woolen will not participate in Seattle's first camp session. Per NFL rules, all six players can be activated at any time, but once they return to practice, they cannot be placed back on the PUP list.
The majority of Seattle's PUP designations don't come as a surprise, starting with Adams, who has been rehabbing from a torn quad tendon that cost him the final 15 regular season games a year ago. While updates from coach Pete Carroll on his recovery have been positive throughout the spring, due to the nature of the injury, the team will err on a side of caution before activating him to return to practice.
As for Brooks, the fourth-year linebacker suffered a torn ACL in a Week 17 win over the Jets on New Years Day and didn't undergo surgery to repair the injury until late January, which put him up against the clock to make it back in time for the start of the upcoming season. However, the former first-round pick looks to be ahead of schedule and based on comments from Carroll, the Seahawks believe he has a chance to make it back at some point in camp and be ready for the season opener.
Woolen, who made the Pro Bowl and finished as a finalist for Defensive Rookie of the Year after leading the league with six interceptions in 2022, tweaked his knee during an OTA practice in May and missed the remainder of Seattle's offseason program. Recently posting a video on his social media account showing him running sprints, he may not need much additional time to recover from minor surgery before returning to the field early in camp.
In the trenches, the situation isn't as optimistic for Mone, who suffered a torn ACL and additional knee damage in a Week 15 loss to the 49ers. At the conclusion of mandatory minicamp last month, Carroll indicated that he was a long ways away from getting back on the field and depending on how his recovery goes this month, he could be a candidate to start the regular season on the PUP list.
Coming off a strong season for the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL, Faoliu underwent knee surgery during the Seahawks offseason program and his status for return remains unknown. As for Fant, his inclusion on the PUP list may be the biggest surprise of the bunch, as he participated in parts of the offseason program and an injury wasn't reported at any point. He did deal with a sore knee late in the 2022 season, so it's possible that may be behind him being deactivated to start camp.
More information on Fant's status and the rest of the players placed on the PUP list by the Seahawks should become known when Carroll speaks with reporters after the conclusion of Wednesday's practice.
