The Seattle Seahawks are facing an interesting offseason, one with plenty of important decisions to be made.

After making a surprise playoff run they are close to contending in the NFC again, and with plenty of draft capital they will be able to do so. However, they must decide what to do at the quarterback position.

Geno Smith looked like an MVP candidate but does have a less-than-stellar track record. While that surprised many people, former NFL receiver and ESPN analyst Keyshawn Johnson made it known on Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy that he wasn't one of them.

“When I looked at it, and I watched Geno (Smith) when he took over for Russell Wilson in 2021," Johnson said. I said to myself, essentially, for a guy that hasn’t played as a starting quarterback for seven years, he’s doing the same thing that Russell’s doing."

Smith went out and proved Johnson right, leading Seattle to a playoff berth, throwing for 4,282 yards with 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Now, though, the Seahawks must decide if they want to pay him.

“You pay him the money. You may not pay him $50 million a year, but you reward him,” Johnson said. “Geno Smith is better than any quarterback you gonna get in college right now, anyway … He’s just seasoned. He’s better than those guys right now.”

If the Seahawks do extend Smith, which they likely should, the question will then become how much do they give him.

“You give him a three-year (contract for $105 million), and you give him about $60 million of it fully guaranteed, $60 to $70 million of it fully guaranteed, and we’re gonna keep it moving,” Johnson said.

The Seahawks may decide to draft a quarterback come April, but that shouldn't stop them from also keeping Smith in the building. He showed he can play at an MVP level and that he can get them to the playoffs.
