In Week 1 of the 2022 season, the Seattle Seahawks upset the Denver Broncos, led by their former star quarterback Russell Wilson, to kick off a surprising campaign that ended with a playoff appearance. However, that win came with a devastating loss.

Star safety Jamal Adams, who also missed the last five games of the 2021 season with an injury, suffered a torn quad tendon in the second quarter of the game. Eventually, Seattle ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Even eight months later, that injury still looms large for Adams and the Seahawks. In an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show on Thursday, Seattle general manager John Schneider revealed that there is no timeline for the safety's return.

"He's doing well. The company answer is that we don't know exactly, you know, timeline," Schneider said. "He's got to keep progressing here.

"Very bad injury, very unfortunate for Jamal. For our team last year, really. He was crushing it in the first half of that Denver game last year. You could see the intensity. You could see the difference maker that he truly is early in that game. So, we really missed him throughout the season."

Injuries have unfortunately become an issue for Adams since arriving in Seattle. He only missed two games in his first three NFL seasons with the New York Jets, but has missed at least four in each of his three seasons with the Seahawks.

Given Adams' history, it makes sense for Schneider and the Seahawks to take a cautious approach to his return.

"We want to be really careful with his progression, so, training camp, I'm just not sure," Schneider said. "We'll see where he is when he comes in for the OTAs."

Seattle's OTA's open on May 22 and continue through the middle of June. The hope is that the team will have a more definitive update by that time.

The Seahawks seem prepared in case Adams does miss more time, as they signed former New York Giants safety Julian Love this offseason. However, Ryan Neal, who stepped up in Adams' absence last season, left to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency.

Regardless of the other safeties on the roster, the Seahawks will be eagerly awaiting the return of the former All-Pro Adams.
