The Seattle Seahawks are one of the sleepers in the NFC, but radio analyst Robert Turbin thinks that the NFC West is Seattle's to lose this season.

In this story:

The Seattle Seahawks have made all the right moves this offseason. Drafting Devon Witherspoon, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Zach Charbonnet while adding veterans in Devin Bush, Dre'Mont Jones, and Bobby Wagner, Seattle strengthened its roster.

But has Pete Carroll's team done enough to usurp the San Francisco 49ers for the  NFC West? Radio analyst Robert Turbin thinks so. In fact, he went one step further and stated that the division is Seattle's to lose.

“I think that the division is Seattle’s to lose,” Turbin said on Bump and Stacey on Seattle Sports. “I do think that Seattle has an advantage over the 49ers.”

With the 49ers coming off back-to-back double-digit winning seasons, the thought that the Seahawks are ready not only seriously to challenge Kyle Shanahan's team but overtake them is an interesting thought.

Geno Smith is coming off a Pro Bowl season, the offense has added some nice pieces, and the defense that was ranked 25th in the NFL for points allowed last season (23.6 per) has seen some savvy veterans be added.

But why does Turbin, the former Seattle and NFL running back, think that this year's version of the Seahawks is equipped to take down what has been one of the toughest teams in the league over the last few seasons?

“With (quarterback) Brock Purdy just getting back (from his injury), I think that we can’t ignore the significance of how important the offseason is for a young player," he said. "We’re talking about a quarterback going into his second year, who is just now starting to kind of reengage with his team and his teammates. The 49ers are dealing with that starting quarterback coming back late in the game.

“I just think that they’re going to have a slow start, a slower start, than normal. I think that’ll impact them at the end of the season, which I think gives Seattle a little bit of a slight advantage. Like Seattle, this entire offseason has pretty gone pretty status quo for them.”

The 49ers do have some question marks at the quarterback position, and as the saying goes, if you have two quarterbacks, you have none. Well, San Francisco has three.

Purdy is no doubt the starter, but how is his elbow? Trey Lance is still an unknown commodity, and Sam Darnold is likely to be the backup and then get called upon if things go sideways.

Does all of that give the Seahawks a slight edge over their division rivals? Turbin sure seems to think so.
