The Seattle Seahawks have licked their wounds and put last week's 30-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the rearview mirror. Now, attention turns to Dan Campbell's Detroit Lions team fresh off a stunning win over Kansas City.

After some offensive struggles against the Rams at Lumen Field, the Seahawks now travel into hostile territory as the Lions have their season opener.

The crowd will be up for it and head coach Pete Carroll knows how tough the assignment on Sunday will be.

“We have a very tough matchup coming up in Detroit, but one that we really need. We need to go to a very difficult championship environment,” Carroll said on KIRO Newradio 97.3 FM. “They’re all fired up … They’re gonna make as big a time of it coming off the KC win as they can, and they deserve it. So it’s a great setting for us to go into. To survive it and then come out with a win would be really something special.”

After an offensive performance that won't live long in the memory for good reasons, the unit will need to bounce back against a Lions defense that made life difficult for Patrick Mahomes.

With the NFC at its weakest in recent memory, both the Seahawks and Lions are two teams many think can push for the conference along with the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and San Francisco 49ers.

Carroll knows what is in front of his team on Sunday can’t be underestimated. He even hinted that if all goes well, the two teams could meet again later in the season.

“It’ll be a great challenge for us,” Carroll said. “A good NFC match down the road and all that kind of stuff. Seeing these guys now, you’d like to see them again later on during the season if you’re that fortunate. We’re going for it.”

The Seahawks got gut-punched against the Rams and now have to pick themselves up off the canvas and face a Lions team in form and in front of their home crowd.

It's a tough assignment, but one that Carroll and his team seem more than up for.
