Seattle Seahawks Select OL Depth In Latest NFL Mock Draft

The new-look Seattle Seahawks - with new head coach Mike Macdonald and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb have their work cut out for them this offseason.

Depth is needed along the offensive line to help protect quarterback Geno Smith and open holes for the running game as the team attempts to bounce back from a 9-8 season and a playoff snub.

The biggest opportunities will be at center and guard, and the Seattle should have plenty of opportunities to get who they want at No. 16 in the first round, as it's a deep offensive line draft.

Bleacher Nation offered its latest NFL Mock Draft recently and gives the Seahawks an opportunity to improve both offensive line positions at guard and center.

Round 1, Pick 16: Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon

"The Seahawks haven’t had a reliable center in years. Olusegun Oluwatimi is currently slated to be their starting center and isn’t really a long-term solution. Enter Powers-Johnson, a dominant force in the Pac-12. At 6’3″ and 328 pounds, he boasts ideal size for the position.

"Powers-Johnson excels in both run blocking and pass protection. He uses his powerful lower body to anchor against bull rushes and displays impressive footwork to handle stunts and blitzes. His agility allows him to get to second-level defenders and seal off running lanes. In the passing game, his quick hands and understanding of angles make him a reliable backstop for the quarterback."

Powers-Johnson would instantly make the interior line better, as he should go into camp as the penciled in starter and should anchor the line for years to come.

Round 3, Pick 81: Christian Mahogany, G, Boston College

"The Seahawks don’t stop at center. With the 81st pick, they grab Christian Mahogany, a versatile guard with experience playing both left and right guard. This gives them much-needed depth and competition on the interior line.

"Mahogany might not possess the elite size some teams covet in guards, but he makes up for it with intelligence and technique. He excels in zone-blocking schemes, using his awareness and athleticism to reach defenders at different levels. His pass protection is solid, with good hand placement and a strong base to anchor against power rushes."

Unlike Powers-Johnson, Mahogany most likely would not be a Day 1 starter, but with his versatility, he could offer depth on either side of center.
