Seattle Seahawks Hosting CFL All-Star For Draft Visit

Qwan'tez Stiggers could be an intriguing option in the Seattle Seahawks' secondary.

The Seattle Seahawks are looking far and wide, high and low for players ahead of the NFL Draft, even going outside the country to do so.

According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the Seahawks have scheduled a visit with CFL all-star Qwan'tez Stiggers. The Toronto Argonauts cornerback has drawn interest from several NFL teams this offseason, and at just 22 years old, he could be an intriguing option.

Stiggers never played a down of college football but found his own unique path to the draft, although he had to overcome several hardships along the way.

“So, February 14, 2020, my dad was involved in a single-car accident. His car flipped 13 times. I graduated in May 2020," Stiggers told CFL.ca. That’s when I went to Lane College in Tennessee on a scholarship. Then my dad passed on September 19, 2020. I went through a depressing time. Didn’t come out of house for several months.

“Then my mom finally signed me up for this league, Fan Controlled Football. I went out there, had a blast, was balling and then that’s when (former Argonauts offensive coordinator) John Jenkins put the word from me up here.”

In his rookie season with the Argonauts, Stiggers certainly made the most of his opportunity. The Atlanta-native cornerback recorded 53 defensive tackles and five interceptions, being named a CFL East All-Star and winning the league's Most Outstanding Rookie award. He also received an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl in February, playing alongside notable college prospects.

For what it's worth, Seattle has had previous success in signing CFL cornerbacks. In 2011, the Seahawks signed then-Calgary Stampeders cornerback Brandon Browner, who became a solid member of the Legion of Boom during the early 2010s (his later legal issues notwithstanding).

The Seahawks could certainly use some more depth at corner, and if Stiggers is there late in the draft, it may be worth taking a flier on him.
