Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith Reveals 2024 Outlook: 'Everything To Prove!'

After taking a step back last season, Geno Smith is under immense pressure to perform in 2024.

Geno Smith remains the Seattle Seahawks' starting quarterback for now, but his margin for error may be razor thin.

After taking a step back in 2023 from his Comeback Player of the Year performance a season prior, rumors swirled regarding Smith's future in Seattle. The Seahawks have repeatedly said they're still committed to Smith as the starter, but their trade for Sam Howell definitely puts more pressure on him. Not to mention, he also has to impress an entirely new coaching staff after the departure of Pete Carroll, the coach who put so much trust in him to replace Russell Wilson.

With so much pressure on his shoulders, Smith is looking to the 2024 season with the goal of proving that he's still capable of leading the Seahawks to success.

Dec 24, 2023; Nashville, Tennessee, USA; Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith (7) celebrates as

"New coaching staff, old coaching staff, I got everything to prove," Smith told reporters Wednesday. "That's every day, that's the way I wake up every day. I'm competing with Sam. I know he's competing with me. I'm going to compete my butt off; I'm competing with everybody in this building to be the best that I can be. I really don't approach it any other way."

Throughout his entire career, Smith has had to work with a chip on his shoulder. He was a second-round pick by the New York Jets in 2013, but after flaming out there, he bounced around the league for years as a backup. It was only when he got to Seattle in 2020 that he finally found some stability, as well as a chance to start again two years later.

Even after taking over for the Seahawks, Smith has still fought to earn every shred of respect he deserves, and he doesn't see himself stopping any time soon.

"Honestly, I don't know," Smith said. "I think in one case I think could say, 'Yeah, I do get it,' in other ways I think you say no. Again, my job is to fight for that respect and that's the thing I enjoy about it, the competing part about just continuing to fight for my respect in this league."
