OT Prospect Darnell Wright Open to Changing Sides After Meeting With Steelers

The Tennessee tackle said he'll make the adjustment and has spoken with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

MOBILE -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will be looking at a number of offensive line prospects during their NFL Draft scouting, but one name that seems to be on many people's radar recently is Tennesse offensive tackle, Darnell Wright.

Wright comes into the NFL Draft process as a right tackle but has a year of experience on the left side.

"So I played left side last year, all year. It was the best fit for the team this year to play right, and that's what I ended up doing," Wright said. "Either our is fine. It's just right tackle has been the most experience I've had."

For the Steelers, they aren't necessarily in the market for a right tackle as Chuks Okorafor is only a year into his new contract. On the left side, however, there are question marks as Dan Moore Jr. didn't take a significant leap forward in year two.

So, could the Steelers take a chance on Wright and ask him to switch sides? Possibly.

Pittsburgh did meet with Wright at the Senior Bowl, and the tackle recalls Mike Tomlin tossing his few words out during the interview.

"We had a few words during practice yesterday," Wright said. "But yeah, I've talked to the Steelers a little bit. It was good."

Wright told All Steelers he's open to changing sides in the NFL but does have more experience on the right side. That being said, he doesn't believe it'll be much of a challenge to move over to left tackle if asked.

"I played mostly right tackle, and that's where I've been at most throughout college, besides having a full year left," Wright said. "I think coaches just want to see versatility in any player. There's only 53 men on the roster. So I mean, having versatility at o-line is a must."
