Former Steelers WRs Struggle in Big Losses

Two former Pittsburgh Steelers wideouts had costly moments for their teams in Week 9.

PITTSBURGH -- Both Chase Claypool and JuJu Smith-Schuster took the blame for disappointing moments in their Week 9 matchups, as both former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers suffered losses with their respective teams.

For Claypool, he's still adjusting to his new offense in Miami, but after being called upon by the Dolphins to replace an injured Jaylen Waddle, the former Steelers receiver made headlines for the wrong reason.

After running in for Waddle, Claypool appeared not to know where to line up for the play and had to be told by teammates. He then had a false start penalty, which soared through the internet because the referee was from Germany.

Claypool has been active for two games with the Dolphins but has only caught one pass for 15 yards. He did recover a fumble during his Week 9 appearance but did not contribute through the air after replacing Waddle.

For Smith-Schuster, he finished the game as the second-leading receiver in New England, hauling in six receptions for 51 yards. But as the team attempted to come back against the Washington Commanders, quarterback Mac Jones threw an interception.

After the game, Smith-Schuster took the blame for the INT as the ball went through his hands on the pass.

"The middle of the field was open. I had an in-cut. It was a good ball, it just went through my hands. Interception. Game over," Smith-Schuster said.

This season, Smith-Schuster has been a hot topic of conversation in New England as he continues to try and find his role within the team. Right now, it's a week-to-week situation on how involved he'll be, but the crucial drop at the end of their game against Washington will be one he looks to recover from next week.
