Former Steelers LB Upset About Antonio Brown's Number

Not everyone believes the Pittsburgh Steelers should've given away No. 84.

PITTSBURGH - Not all members - or past members - of the Pittsburgh Steelers orginization are okay with the team giving away No. 84 this season.

The Steelers allowed newly-signed running back Cordarrelle Patterson to keep his long-time number, giving him 84 for the 2024 season. Immediately, people thought of Antonio Brown, and the former wideout made it known he wasn't pleased after the news broke.

He's not the only one, though. Former Steelers linebacker Terrence Garvin said it was wrong for the team to give away the number as well. Speaking on the Arthur Moats Experience, Garvin gave his thoughts on Pittsburgh not honoring jersey numbers.

"Nah, I wouldn’t have given that 84 away. That’s still 84. You know what I mean? That’s AB 84. Best wide receiver in the league for multiple years. Never forget. I know the relationship went bad, but that’s still the best receiver in the league for multiple years," Garvin said. "I just don’t think they should have done that. I don’t love that he’s putting the 84 on his back."

Patterson has worn No. 84 throughout his 11-year career. The potential Hall of Famer also deserves some sort of consideration when it comes to honoring him as a player, but with Brown's legendary career in Pittsburgh, Garvin wants the hometown player to be held higher.

The Steelers have retired just three jersey numbers in team history but have stopped players from taking certain numbers because of the legacy. Brown may have been in that category if it wasn't for how things ended in Pittsburgh.
