Did DeAndre Hopkins Make 'Unofficial' Free Agency Visit to Texans?

Is free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins on his way back to his former team, the Houston Texans?

In what would certainly qualify as a "make-good'' following the unfortunate trade divorce of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Houston Texans, there is now buzz that the free agent star is not only "gauging'' the idea of signing with the Texans but has already made a visit to Houston.

Hopkins spent time visiting the Texans while in Houston this week, according to a report from John Crumpler of Texans Wire, though based on what we know from the inside-the-league NFL transactions wire, we do not believe this constitutes an "official'' visit. Indeed, a "visit'' to Houston can literally simply mean spending time with his family in Texas, though the report implies that the receiver's time was also spend with the Texans.

Hopkins started his career in Houston, playing here from 2013 to 2019 as he made four All-Pro teams while becoming one of a handful of greatest Texans ever. He was dumped by management in one of the most lopsided trades in NFL history, though his time with his new employer the Arizona Cardinals never paid off in the huge expected dividends.

As he approaches age 31, his last great season came two years ago as in the last two seasons he's dealt with injuries and a PED suspension.

The Texans, when he played here, were a playoff contender. If Houston outbids other suitors - a list said to include the New England Patriots, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills - it might take a multi-year deal costing $20 million per year in average salary ... an arguably sound investment if Hopkins is able to lift the Texans out of the basement of the AFC.

Houston remains in the midst of a rebuild. But recent high draft picks have paid off, and the latest one, used on rookie quarterback CJ Stroud, could pay off even more quickly with Hopkins as a target.
