They say if a rookie quarterback isn't generating buzz in his first off-season with his new team, it's a bad sign. So it should come as a welcome development for the Houston Texans that quarterback C.J. Stroud continues to be showered in praise by his new teammates.

The latest of those teammates is veteran tight end Dalton Schultz, who was especially complimentary of Stroud this week when asked about the No. 2 overall pick.

“C.J. is bright man,” Schultz said earlier this week. “His attitude and demeanor are kind of understated at times and he walks through pretty humbled like head down, soft voice but you start to interact with him and the kid just oozes confidence.

"You know everyone is familiar with what he did at Ohio State. The kid is a baller. He throws a nice ball and so far he has been soaking up everything he can from all the offensive coaches in the room. I think the kid has a bright future ahead of him.”

We recently listed Schultz as a bounce-back candidate for 2023. After a relatively disappointing final season with the Dallas Cowboys, the tight end settled for a one-year/$6.25 million contract to join the Texans.

As recently as 2021, Schultz had 78 catches for 808 yards and eight touchdowns. Set to turn 27 in July, Schultz could set himself up for a long-term deal -- be it with the Texans or elsewhere -- with a productive 2023 season.

Obviously, how Stroud performs in his rookie season will have a direct impact on Schultz's first season in Houston. The fact that the veteran tight end is among those that seem bullish on Stroud bodes well for all parties involved.
