Texans WR John Metchie 'On Target' For Training Camp Return

In this story:
Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie has had a rough road to the field since being drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. First, it was a diagnosis of Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, that through his entire future into question.
And after a long battle, Metchie was able to overcome that obstacle and set himself up to debut next season. However, now, he is dealing with another setback, albeit one of far less severity in a strained hamstring.
Fortunately, it appears that the hamstring will not hold Metchie back either, with Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans revealing that the second-year pass catcher should be ready to go for training camp this summer.
“Everything is on target,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said on Wednesday, “I think Metchie will be good to go for training camp.”
Upon his selection, Metchie was thought of as one of the top wide receivers prospects in the 2022 draft class and was a force to be reckoned with in Tuscaloosa.
In fact, during his final campaign with the Tide, Metchie hauled in 96 catches for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns, being named second-team All-SEC, and winning the Jon Cornish Trophy for the second year in a row.
And considering the Texans are in desperate need of some impact players on the outside, Metchie will undoubtedly be a player to keep an eye on moving forward.
That said, the Texans will not push Metchie into action before he is ready.
“I’m not setting any expectations on Metch,” Texans receivers coach Ben McDaniels said. “I certainly will not put any ceilings on him. He’s proved to everybody that’s unnecessary, and he’ll attempt to shatter those ceilings. My expectations are high for him returning, whenever that is, and hitting the ground running.”
