NFL Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers passed away early Wednesday morning at the age of 77. The former Chicago Bears star, known as the ‘Kansas Comet’ dating back to his college days at KU, amassed 9,435 combined yards, 4,956 yards rushing and 336 points scored in a career cut short due to injury. At 34, Sayers was the youngest player to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame back in 1977. Sayers later sued the NFL in 2014 over concussions that led to loss of memory, dementia and depression, among other things, in his life after football.
