Is it happening again with Stefon Diggs?

The former Vikings wide receiver and current Bills star — who forced his way out of Minnesota during a bizarre saga a few years ago — is the only player who didn't show up to Buffalo's mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. Head coach Sean McDermott said he's "very concerned" about Diggs' absence but didn't elaborate beyond that.

This doesn't appear to be about money like it is with the Vikings' Danielle Hunter, as Diggs just signed a lucrative four-year, $96 million extension last offseason. He's among the game's highest-paid wideouts, plays with elite quarterback Josh Allen on a contender, and has been ultra-productive during his three seasons with the Bills.

So what could his absence be about? It's anyone's guess at this point. Diggs might be frustrated with how the last two seasons have ended for the Bills, as he had 3 catches for 7 yards in a loss to the Chiefs in January 2022 and then just 4 catches for 35 yards in a loss to the Bengals this January. He has posted some cryptic tweets at times, which is something Vikings fans will remember quite well.

This will be a situation to monitor. Maybe there's a simple explanation, but maybe there isn't. Because of his contract and the dead cap involved, the Bills can't really trade Diggs this offseason.

What makes it interesting is that if it does turn into a holdout or a messy situation, something like that has already happened once with Diggs. He posted a bunch of cryptic tweets towards the end of his time with the Vikings, and eventually tweeted his way out of Minnesota in 2020 with the famous "it's time for a new beginning" post. That was after he got fined during the 2019 season for skipping multiple days of practice, then held a strange press conference where he said there's "truth to all rumors."

The Vikings traded Diggs to the Bills and drafted Justin Jefferson with the pick they got back, a move that has worked out incredibly well for both sides. Until now?
