Vikings' Josh Metellus Defends Kirk Cousins Over Tuesday Off Day Criticism

In this story:
Last summer, when the Netflix 'Quarterback' documentary series came out, one thing we learned is that Kirk Cousins takes Tuesdays off during the regular season to get away from football a bit and spend time with his family. It's a choice the veteran QB made after figuring out what worked best for him over the course of a decade in the NFL. Given how his career has played out — and how well he was playing in 2023 before getting hurt — it seems like that strategy works just fine for Cousins.
That didn't stop the inevitable criticism from coming. There were those who gave Cousins heat for it last summer, but that mostly died down when the season began and he was thriving. Now, the talking point has resurfaced ahead of a free agency period where Cousins is perhaps the biggest prize on the market. It was discussed on a recent episode of The O-Line Committee podcast, featuring SKOR North's Phil Mackey and former Vikings linemen Alex Boone and Jeremiah Sirles.
"When the quarterback of the team comes out and is like, 'well I take Tuesdays off because I need personal time,' I was really offended when he said that," Boone said. "And I think everybody on that team was probably like, 'this is bullshit.'"
Well, Josh Metellus is on the team. And he disagrees. After seeing Boone's quote, the Vikings safety decided to publicly stick up for his quarterback.

Question for Vikings twitter! Do you go in to work on the weekends? Or do you forfeit your lunch break every day?

Just asking because everyone is different, so why have opinions about someone else’s choice? https://t.co/cnQ93ayeRZ

Sirles said it was weird to him because he had never played with a quarterback who took Tuesdays off. That's presumably the case for Boone, too. But just because it's different, that doesn't mean it's wrong. If it works for Cousins and the Vikings are OK with it, that should probably be the end of the story.
