Hurricanes center Jordan Staal to undergo surgery on fractured fibula
Hurricanes center Jordan Staal will undergo surgery to repair a fractured right fibula on Friday, the team announced Thursday.
The procedure, which will be performed in Raleigh, has an estimated recovery time of three to four months. Carolina's first regular season game is Oct. 10, at home against the Islanders.

The 26-year-old broke the leg in a preseason game in Buffalo on Tuesday when he got tangled up with Sabres defenseman Josh Gorges.
Staal, who hasn't missed a game in two seasons with the Hurricanes, had 40 points (15 goals, 25 assists) last season in 82 games. He has 145 goals, 174 assists and a plus-37 plus/minus in eight seasons. He played his first six years with the Penguins, winning the Stanley Cup with them in 2009.
