Report: Former defenseman Chris Pronger hired by NHL Player Safety
Former defenseman Chris Pronger was hired by NHL Player Safety this week, Bob McKenzie of TSN tweeted Wednesday.
It's not immediately clear whether the former All-Star and Stanley Cup champion, who turns 40 on Thursday, is still under contract with the Flyers. If he is, then it remains to be seen how this will pose a conflict of interest for the team and the league. Pronger, who replaces Brian Leetch in the department, is collecting a $4.5 million annual salary from Philadelphia, a deal that expires in 2017.
Pronger hasn't played since 2011 and his role now is to be a part of a group that analyzes plays from a safety perspective, participate in hearings and make recommendations to senior vice president Stephane Quintal of the player safety department. He would not weigh in on anything to do with the Flyers, according to Nicholas J. Cotsonika of Yahoo! Sports.
