Capitals left wing Jason Chimera scored a goal that you don’t see too often in the NHL. At 2:26 of the second period of Game 2 of Washington’s first-round series with the Flyers, Chimera took a shot with his back to the goal from center ice that trickled past goaltender Steve Mason.

Elite level of play is something expected in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, especially when the Flyers, already down 1–0 in the series, are trying to upset the Presidents' Trophy-winning Caps. Soft goals from center ice are not a part of that plan.

Here’s the video of the mistake that gave the Capitals a 2–0 lead:

It’s a goal Mason will have trouble forgetting. The puck didn’t bounce or change direction after Chimera’s dump-in, and after it squeaks through Mason’s legs, he reacted immediately.

The gift to Washington created a bigger hill for the Flyers to climb in the opening round, as they are already missing Sean Couturier, who will miss the rest of the series.
