NHL announces 2016-17 home openers

The 2016-17 NHL season opens on Wed. October 12 in Ottawa, Chicago, San Jose and Edmonton.

The NHL has announced the 2016-17 home openers for all 30 teams. The complete 1,230-game regular season schedule, which begins on Wed. October 12 with games in Ottawa, Chicago, Edmonton and San Jose and will be unveiled on Tuesday, June 21.

In the meantime, some notables: 

• The Penguins will hoist their Stanley Cup banner in front of the Capitals, last season’s presumptive favorites who fell disappointingly short.

•​ The Sharks will host the Pacific rival Kings.

•​ The Anaheim Ducks will be a part of five home openers (Stars, Devils, Islanders, Flyers), including their own.

•​ The Rangers will host the crosstown, Metropolitan Division rival Islanders.

Boston Bruins: Thursday, Oct. 20 vs. New Jersey

Buffalo Sabres: Thursday, Oct. 13 vs. Montreal

Carolina Hurricanes: Friday, Oct. 28 vs. NY Rangers

Chicago Blackhawks: Wednesday, Oct. 12 vs. St. Louis
