The Canadiens have signed forward Andrew Shaw to a six year contract, the team announced Monday.

Shaw was acquired by Montreal during the NHL draft on Friday night in exchange for two first-round picks. He was a restricted free agent.

Shaw’s contract with the Habs is worth $3.9 million per year, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.

Shaw, who turns 25 next month, played his first five NHL seasons with the Blackhawks, winning two Stanley Cups. He had 34 points in 78 games last season and scored four goals in Chicago’s first-round playoff loss to the St. Louis Blues.

“We are very pleased to have agreed to a long-term deal with Andrew Shaw,” Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said in a statement. “As I mentioned last Friday following his acquisition, we are adding a solid character player to our team, a reliable player who plays with grit and a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks over the past five seasons. Andrew will add more leadership to our team. I had the opportunity to discuss with him over the past few days, and I sense his determination and excitement in joining the Canadiens’ organization for many years to come.”
