Stars Apologize for Fans Throwing Trash on Ice, Causing Delay During Game 3

The Stars issued an apology after fans threw trash on the ice in the final seconds of the second period during Game 3 of the Western Conference Final against the Golden Knights on Tuesday.

Brad Alberts, the CEO and president of the Stars, released a statement Wednesday, publicly apologizing to Las Vegas and the NHL for the “unacceptable” behavior from a few fans inside American Airlines Arena during the contest.

“Their actions were unacceptable and put the safety of the players and fans at risk,” Alberts wrote in the statement. “We take pride in providing the best experience for everyone who enters our arena. The actions of these individuals certainly do not reflect our great city, organization and loyal fan base.”

The inappropriate behavior started with 21 seconds remaining before the intermission. Several fans began throwing trash on the ice, resulting in the second period being shortened. 

Prior to the incident, Dallas had already given up three goals in the first period and surrendered a fourth earlier in the second. 

Dallas went onto lose Tuesday’s game 4–0 and now faces a 3–0 series deficit. The Stars will seek to keep their season and hopes of a trip to the Stanley Cup Final alive in Game 4 on Thursday.
