FIS announces course-setters for Olympic ski races

KRANJSKA GORA, Slovenia (AP) The International ski federation has announced the course-setters for the Alpine events at the Sochi Olympics.

Croatian coach Ante Kostelic was chosen Sunday to set the final run of the men's slalom, and the slalom part of the super-combined.

Kostelic, the father of former overall champions Ivica and Janica, has made a name for setting challenging courses by placing gates in unusual spots. A year ago at a World Cup slalom in Kitzbuehel, Austria, the jury rejected a course set by Kostelic, deeming it as ''unskiable.''

Andreas Puelacher of Austria is in charge of the gates for the final run of the men's GS.

On the women's side, Luis Prenn of Switzerland will set the decisive slalom course and Livio Magoni of Italy the final GS run.

The course setters for all races except for downhill, which will be done by FIS officials, are coaches from different nations who were drawn randomly during this weekend's World Cup events in St. Moritz and Kranjska Gora.

Alpine skiing at the Olympics starts with the men's downhill on Sunday and will be finish with the men's night slalom on Feb. 22.
