SOCHI SCENE: The athletes' village

Turns out all is not right in the athletes' village -- at least, to hear the athletes tell it.

The American speedskaters were missing items like soap and trash cans in their rooms.

Brian Hansen says a U.S. company specializing in personal care products helped get soap for the skaters.

''I still don't have an extra pillow,'' he says, ''so I'm actually using a blanket stuffed inside a T-shirt and using my pillow under my legs.''

Jilleanne Rookard is a little frustrated about the missing trash cans.

''Every time we get a little bag, the maid takes it and then we're stuck throwing trash on the floor in a pile again,'' she says.

The housekeeping staff tends to arrive at inconvenient times, too.

''They don't speak the language, so sometimes they'll just bust into our room. They don't knock,'' she says. ''I'm like, `Gosh, I hope I have all my clothes on when they come barging in the door.'''
