LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) The leaders of the United Nations and the International Olympic Committee are working on joint efforts to help athletes caught up in conflicts in Africa and the Middle East.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met Tuesday in Lausanne with IOC President Thomas Bach, two months after they signed an agreement to strengthen ties.

The IOC says in a statement the two men reviewed the situation in South Sudan and the Central African Republic and discussed collaboration to help athletes in refugee camps.

They also discussed the upcoming visit of former IOC President Jacques Rogge to Jordan to meet Syrian refugees.

Rogge was recently appointed as Ban's special envoy for youth refugees and sport.

Bach and Ban are scheduled to attend the opening of a new sports center in Haiti in July.
