BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) The head of Hungary's national Olympic committee says it fully supports a possible Budapest bid for the 2024 Games.
Committee president Zsolt Borkai says Thursday there is still much work to do on a bid but ''our intentions are unequivocal - we would like to host the best athletes in the world in Budapest.''
Borkai said ''concrete steps'' could be taken soon toward pursuing a bid by the Hungarian capital.
Attila Szalay-Berzeviczy, head of BOM, a nonprofit group of corporations and individuals backing an Olympic bid, said that while a bid for the 2028 Games would be ''realistic,'' the possibility of trying for 2024 ''would not be surprising.''
Formal bidding for the 2024 Olympics will begin in 2015. The IOC will select a host city in 2017.
Paris, Rome, Istanbul, Hamburg, Berlin, Doha, and cities in the United States and South Africa have expressed interest in bidding for 2024.
