MONTREAL (AP) Qatar has agreed to contribute $1 million to a global anti-doping research fund.

The World Anti-Doping Agency says the oil-rich Gulf nation is making the contribution as part of a worldwide government program to match the $10 million already pledged by the International Olympic Committee.

WADA says Qatar's donation ''will significantly help'' in funding research into new techniques for detecting banned substances and methods.

Other countries that have pledged to contribute to the fund include the United States, China, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, South Korea and Turkey.
