Fidel Castro son gets role in baseball-softball Olympic bid

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) A son of Fidel Castro and a prominent Washington, D.C.-based attorney will help campaign for the return of baseball and softball in the Olympics.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation says Antonio Castro will serve as its ''global ambassador.'' He was part of the delegation in 2013 that pushed unsuccessfully for baseball and softball's inclusion in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.

The WBSC says Edward Colbert, an intellectual property attorney with Washington firm Kenyon & Kenyon and brother of comedian Stephen Colbert, will be its general counsel.

An IOC resolution passed in December allows organizers of the 2020 Tokyo Games to request one or more new sports. Baseball and softball, which were dropped after the 2008 Beijing Games, are considered favorites. Squash, karate and wushu are among others lobbying for inclusion.
