IOC to launch online courses for Olympic athletes, coaches

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) The IOC is launching an online educational service for Olympians and other elite athletes and coaches.

The service, called ''The IOC Athlete Learning Gateway,'' will go live on May 28 during the International Olympic Committee's athlete career conference in Lima, Peru.

More than 4,000 athletes and coaches from around the world have helped the IOC test and develop the pilot version of the program.

IOC President Thomas Bach says the service ''will allow athletes to shape their futures while still pursuing their athletic careers.''

The launch follows a recommendation in Bach's ''Olympic Agenda 2020'' program calling for support to athletes to be strengthened.

IOC athletes commission chair Claudia Bokel says the service will give athletes ''access to educational material produced by leading academics and athletes.''
