MONTREAL (AP) Olympic medalist rower and lawyer Tricia Smith has been voted president of the Canadian Olympic Committee.

She is a four-time Olympian who won a silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Games in coxless pairs with teammate Elizabeth Craig. She is also the vice president of the International Rowing Federation.

Smith had been vice president of the Canadian Olympic Committee since 2009. She recently became interim president of the organization following Marcel Aubut's resignation in October.

The committee's board on Sunday chose Smith over Peter Lawless, a coach and lawyer who will continue to serve the organization as vice president.
