RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) Murphy Bromberg and Jessica Parratto advanced to the individual 10-meter semifinals at the FINA Diving World Cup on Saturday to secure a second quota spot for the U.S. in women's platform at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
However, the U.S. failed to qualify a team in women's syncho 3-meter after Abby Johnston and Laura Ryan finished eighth in the final, missing an Olympic berth by one spot.
Bromberg, of Bexley, Ohio, finished seventh and Parratto, of Dover, New Hampshire, was ninth in the semis. The final is Sunday. Amy Cozad had already earned the U.S. a spot in Rio at last year's world championships in Kazan, Russia. The U.S. will select its Olympic team at trials this summer.
On the men's side, David Boudia of Noblesville, Indiana, and Steele Johnson, of Carmel, Indiana, finished ninth in synchro 10-meter to advance to Sunday's final. They will need to move up in the standings to qualify the U.S. for a berth in Rio in that event.
