Rio appoints new construction firm to finish late velodrome

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) A new construction company has been appointed to finish Rio de Janeiro's Olympic velodrome, which has been hit by delays.

Rio 2016 spokesman Phillip Wilkinson told The Associated Press that ''a new constructor has already been appointed by City Hall.'' He said a test event for the velodrome should go ahead as planned between April 30 and May 1.

Delays have already forced Olympic organizers to push back the test event for track cycling and the UCI, cycling's governing body, has expressed concern about the venue.

Rio has faced very few delays building venues for this year's games, despite getting off to a slow start.
