US Gymnastics championships heading to Anaheim in 2017

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) The U.S. gymnastics championships are heading to Southern California.

USA Gymnastics announced on Tuesday the 2017 championships will be held at the Honda Center in Anaheim from Aug. 17-20. The Honda Center previously hosted the 2003 World Championships and the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials.

USA Gymnastics president Steve Penny credited Anaheim for having a ''storied history'' hosting events, pointing out the U.S. women won the world title in 2003 while Paul Hamm captured the world all-around title at the same meet.

The women will compete on Aug. 17 and 19, with the men competing on Aug. 18 and 20.

The move also reunites the men's and women's championships. They are split this year heading into the Summer Olympics. The men's championships are in Hartford, Connecticut, from June 3-5, with the women's championships in St. Louis June 23-26.
