Ex-Olympians call for broader doping probe after Russia case

MOSCOW (AP) A global association of Olympic athletes says it wants a wider investigation into doping to follow a World Anti-Doping Agency commission report which detailed systematic drug use in Russian track and field.

The World Olympians Association, which represents current and former Olympic athletes, says the response to November's report ''has been unsatisfactory and has not gone far enough to protect clean athletes.''

Following a call from the WADA athletes' commission last week, the WOA says it wants the investigation to be extended to ''other sports and countries.''

While November's report included mentions of possible malpractice involving Russians and related to other sports such as swimming and skiing, they were not followed up in detail because it was outside the report's remit.
