RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) The Brazilian Olympic Committee says an Australian swim coach, who faced sexual abuse charges in the 1980s, will not be a member of the host country's staff for the games.

Brazilian Olympic Committee spokesman Claudio Motta tells The Associated Press that Scott Volkers ''will not get accreditation to be part of the Brazilian Olympics team.''

Motta says Volkers works with a club in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais and has a relationship with the national swimming federation.

Volkers faced charges of sexually abusing female swimmers in the 1980s but was never found guilty.

Motta says the request to ban Volkers came from Australian IOC member John Coates.
