Croatia hung on for an upset 72–70 win over Spain in the Olympic basketball tournament Sunday thanks in part to a key play by one of its young stars.

Spain was a medal favorite entering the Games, while Croatia needed to win last month’s Olympic qualifying tournament to secure a spot in the field.

In the closing seconds of the game, Pau Gasol rose for a turnaround hook shot but was met by Dario Saric, who swatted the shot away.

If Gasol had made the shot, it would have tied the game and likely sent it to overtime.

Saric finished with just five points on 1-of-7 shooting. Bojan Bogdanovic led the way for Croatia with 23 points.

Saric was selected by the Sixers with the 12th pick in the 2014 draft but played the last two seasons in Turkey. He will move to the NBA this season.
