Shaunae Miller wins 400 meters after diving across finish line, upsets Allyson Felix

Shaunae Felix from the Bahamas won the 400 meters on Monday, diving past the finish line.

The Bahamas’ Shaunae Miller won the Olympic women’s 400 meters on Monday, diving past Allyson Felix in a controversial finish to claim gold.

In a tight race, Miller stumbled while approaching the final few meters, eventually falling through the finish line. With her dive, Miller finished ahead of the American, who was racing the 400 meters in the Olympics for the first time. 

Miller finished the race in 49.44 seconds, while Felix finished in 49.51. Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson took bronze in 49.85.

Felix’s silver is her seventh Olympic medal, and she passes Jackie Joyner-Kersee for the most all time for a female American runner. If Felix medals in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays, she will tie Jamaica’s Merlene Ottey as the most decorated female track and field athlete ever.
