The Tokyo 2020 Olympics Have Been Postponed but Japan Knows the Experience of a Lost Summer Games

SI contributor Chris Nashawaty shares the story of the dissolution of what would've been the first Olympics held in a non-Western country

While the 2020 Olympics have not yet been officially canceled, but rather postponed to 2021, the host country Japan has had an Olympics upended before. Leading up to the 1940 Olympics - Japan lobbied in various ways to land the Games, which would've been the first time the Olympics were held in a non-Western country. SI contributor Chris Nashawaty joined Robin Lundberg to look back at the 1940 Summer Games and what led to the dissolution of the event that would've been an opportunity for Tokyo to show the West the rich tradition and culture of a resilient country.
