Germany, Argentina top new FIFA ranking; USA drops to No. 31

World Cup champion Germany remained at the top of the monthly FIFA ranking, which was released Thursday, while the U.S. men's national team dropped to No. 31. 

The top seven remained unchanged, with Colombia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil and Portugal following behind Argentina. France, Uruguay and Spain round out the top 10, respectively. 

Ivory Coast, following its African Cup of Nations victory, rose eight spots to No. 20 while Australia climbed 37 spots to No. 63 after winning the Asian Cup.

Other countries making gains in the ranking include Costa Rica (up three to No. 13), Ghana (up 12 to No. 25) and Iran (No. 41), which is the highest rated Asian country.

The United States dropped four places after a loss to Chile (No. 14) last month and a victory over Panama on Feb. 8. Panama dropped to No. 61 in the ranking.

Next month’s ranking will be released March 12.
