MUNICH (AP) — Shakhtar Donetsk lost a defender to the fastest red card in Champions League history and Bayern Munich cruised into the quarterfinals with a 7-0 victory on Wednesday, matching its biggest home win.
Thomas Mueller notched two goals, while Jerome Boateng, Franck Ribery, Holger Badstuber, Robert Lewandowski and Mario Goetze added one apiece. Olexandr Kucher was sent off in the third minute for tripping Goetze, who was racing toward goal.
Mueller converted from the penalty spot in the fourth minute to get Bayern going.
Boateng added the second in the 34th as Shakhtar failed to register a shot on goal in the first half. Ribery and Mueller added goals early in the second half with Lewandowski and Goetze getting on the scoresheet late on.
Bayern also beat Basel 7-0 in 2012.
