Lionel Messi may be at or near the top of nearly every scoring record available for the remainder of his career, but the record will also show that the little Argentinian is also a master provider.

That assisting skill was on full display for Ivan Rakitic's goal against Manchester City in the second leg of the teams' round of 16 tie, a goal which gave Barcelona a 1-0 lead in the game and a 3-1 advantage on aggregate.

The play started with Messi on the right flank, where with his left foot he scooped the ball over the whole Man City defense for Rakitic at the far post. The Croatian responded with a nice finish Messi might have done himself.

SI's own Liviu Bird chimed in with a good tactical point that has nothing to do with either Messi or Rakitic:

As always, that wasn't the only feature of today's edition of The Messi Show. With his former coach Pep Guardiola in attendance, Messi busted out a few moves. Guardiola reacted appropriately.
