The last time they met: Lady Andrade's punch to Abby Wambach

Monday June 22nd, 2015

Colombia's Lady Andrade has made headlines during this Women's World Cup, both on and off the field.

On it, she's scored a couple of goals, helped Colombia to an upset of France and led the South Americans to the knockout stage, where they'll face the United States in the round of 16 on Monday (8 p.m., Fox Sports 1, NBC Universo).

Off of it, she's taken some verbal shots at the USA, acting as the catalyst for a war of words prior to their clash.

Of course, the last time the two sides met, Andrade was the center of attention as well, albeit for an entirely different reason.

It was Andrade's punch of Abby Wambach during the 2012 Olympics and her ensuing two-game suspension that drew the headlines. As the two were racing down the center of the field toward Colombia's penalty area, Andrade caught Wambach in the eye with a jab. It didn't draw as much as a yellow card during the match (which the USA won 3-0, helped by a Wambach second-half goal), as it wasn't seen by the officiating crew at Hampden Park, but it still provides some of the backdrop for Monday's Women's World Cup clash.
