Report: Lionel Messi (knee) ruled out of El Clasico

Monday November 2nd, 2015

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi will not be ready to play in this month's El Clasico against Real Madrid as he continues to recover from a knee injury, reports ESPN Deportes.

Messi is currently undergoing therapy for a torn internal collateral ligament in his right knee, an injury he sustained against Las Palmas on Sept. 26. According to ESPN, the therapy has not progressed as quickly as was hoped, and Messi likely won't be ready to play until the first week of December.

Barcelona's match against Real Madrid is on Nov. 21.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Messi has been having pain while running, and there is some worry about the condition of his knee.

Messi’s recovery is being handled by two doctors from the Argentinean national team rather than Barcelona’s medical staff.

Messi has scored three goals in six La Liga games this season. Despite his absence, Barcelona is currently tied with Real Madrid atop the La Liga standings with 24 points each.
