Fabian Johnson continues run of form with Champions League assists

Tuesday December 8th, 2015

U.S. international Fabian Johnson continued his torrid run of attacking form Tuesday, setting up a pair of goals at the Etihad in Borussia Monchengladbach's Champions League group finale vs. Manchester City.

Johnson, who entered Tuesday with five goals in his last six games (and four in his last three, including one against Bayern Munich), set up Julian Korb for an equalizer after David Silva opened the scoring for the hosts. Splitting defenders while carrying forward in the left channel, Johnson spotted Korb across the box, and played him in postition to beat Joe Hart to make it 1-1.

Johnson then capped an impressive Monchengladbach passing sequence by redirecting a ball in the Man City box toward Raffael, who touched home the go-ahead goal at the end of the first half.

Manchester City battled back and won 4-2 on two late goals by Raheem Sterling and one by Wilfried Bony. The result finished off Monchengladbach's stay in Europe this season, with the club finishing in fourth in its group behind Manchester City, Juventus and Sevilla.
