Sporting Kansas City will look more like the Kansas City Wiz when commemorating the 20th anniversary of the club's inaugural match.
Wednesday night marks the 20th anniversary of Sporting Kansas City's inaugural match, and the club will be wearing a pair of throwback jerseys with a retro feel to commemorate the occasion.
When Sporting KC faces the Colorado Rapids at Children's Mercy Park, the club will look more like the Kansas City Wiz that took on the Rapids in 1996 at Arrowhead Stadium, winning 3-0 on two goals from Digital Takawira and one from Frank Klopas.
The Wiz were known for their rainbow logo and colors, and those will be on full display on both the club's pre-game training shirt and matchday uniform. The former will be a black training kit featuring a rainbow pattern across the front and the old Wiz crest over the heart, similar to the uniforms Preki & Co. wore on April 13, 1996. The numbers on the club's white, argyle uniform will be filled in with rainbow coloring.
The festivities also include the club, which currently leads MLS with 12 points from five matches, unveiling its all-time Best XI at halftime.
