On Friday, FIFA will hold an extraordinary congress to elect a new president to succeed the incumbent Sepp Blatter.

Blatter announced his intention to resign from FIFA’s highest office more than seven months ago as a widespread corruption scandal engulfed the organization. Despite the scandal, Blatter remained president of FIFA in the lead–up to the special eleciton, though he was banned by the FIFA Ethics Committee in December. Cameroonian executive Issa Hayatou replaced Blatter as FIFA's interim chief.
