Pedrosa wins Valencia GP; Stoner 3rd in final race
VALENCIA, Spain (AP) -- Dani Pedrosa of Spain won the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix on Sunday after starting from the pit lane and taking advantage of a crash by motorcycling world champion Jorge Lorenzo.
Katsuyuki Nakasuga was second and retiring two-time world champion Casey Stoner was third in his final race, his 69th top-three finish in MotoGP.
Pedrosa had won the pole position in Saturday's qualifying, but he chose to take the pit-lane start penalty for a last-minute change of tires because of rain that left the 2.48-mile track wet.
The Spaniard made quick work of the field to steer his Honda into second place before moving first when Lorenzo went off his Yamaha after hitting a wet patch with 17 laps to go.
