F1 team Sauber signs Ericsson to drive in 2015

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Formula One team Sauber announced Saturday driver Marcus Ericsson will join them for 2015, picking him up after the financial collapse of team Caterham.

Signing Ericsson means Sauber will drop either Adrian Sutil or Esteban Gutierrez. Sauber said it will announce its second driver at a later date.

Ericsson was in his first season in Formula One, but his Caterham team went into bankruptcy after the Russian Grand Prix and will not race at the U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday. Ericsson traveled to Texas anyway, and has been in the paddock as he negotiated a final deal with Sauber.

Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn called Ericsson a motivated driver who improved despite tough circumstances with Caterham.

Ericsson's best finish this season was 16th place in Russia.
